Will Jay-Z high school make it to the playoffs? We’ll find out this weekend when bitter rivals Jay-z High School and Nas high school face each other this weekend. The game will take place on Saturday December 19 2009 in Jay-Z high school and they need to beat Nas to be able to make the playoffs. Nas would love to spoil Jay-Zs near perfect season. This will be a game to remember.
Nas high school record is 4-3.Nas HS senior Walter Hagen leads his division with 22 QB sacks. Nass defensive lineman, Joe martin, had this to say about the game. “We’re looking forward to this game, we are going to crush and kill Jay-Z. They are going to get eaten alive.” Nas QB, Nelson Backford has been suspended from the game due to a fight with a teacher. Nas high schools second string, Fred Rdie, must play in Saturdays game. Nas would love to take away Jay-Zs dream of making it to the playoffs.
Jay-Zs record is 6-1. Their QB Richard Oliver leads TD with 17 and has a 64% completion record. Jay-Zs coach, Coach Wilson had this to say, “We have a great record and rolling through Nas is just a formality. We know what we have to do to get to the Playoffs. Beating NAs is our first Step.” Jay-Zs fullback, John Pagano is injured and he was responsible for their last three touchdowns. The game is very important to Jay-Z because they need this to be able to make it to the playoffs.
Everyone’s crazy over this game. Jay-Z is holding a pep rally on Thursday and everyone is extremely excited and anxious. They players a re stoked to play this game and all their body’s are fueled with raging blood ready to just about kill each other. This is going to be a game to remember.

On Saturday December 19th 2009 Jay-Z High School will be playing against Nas High school in a football game. But it isn’t just a regular game it’s a win or go home game. If Jay-z High Schools loses they will not advance to the playoffs. Nas High School wants to try there best to ruin Jayz-Z High Schools chance of making it to the playoffs.
Nas High school has a record of 4-3 and Jay- High School has a record of 6-1. According to psal.org Jay-Z QB Richard Oliver leads in touch downs with 17 and has a 64% completion record. Nas High School senior Walter Hagen leads his division with 22Qb sacks and says “this is my last year and I will make it my best year”. This game is going to be very interesting because both teams have issues with star players. Jay-Z QB Armando Soriano and fullback John Pagano are both injured and the Nas High School QB Nelson Beckford has been suspended due to a fight with a teacher.
Many people cant wait to see this game. I had a interview with a student who said “ I cant wait till’ Saturday! We are going to destroy Jay-Z and trash their nearly perfect season. I have a voodoo doll of Jay-Z quarter back, Richie Oliver, I’ve been sticking pins in it’s arms for three months. If we see him, we’re going to beat him down!” According to the Daily News, the mood at Jay-Z High School is extremely anxious and excited, There even having a pep-rally on Thursday.
The students aren’t the only ones who got interviews I also interviewed both coaches. Jay-Z coach Wilson said “ we have a great record and rolling through Nas is just a formality. We know what we have to do to get to the playoffs. Beating Nas is our first step” Nas coach williams said “ we will do anything in our power to destroy Jay-Z High School. It all comes down to the conclusion which will take place on December 19th 2009 come watch and you will be amazed!!!

Saturday December 19th 2009, Jay-z HS vs Nas Hs. Game 8 of the PSAL regular season. This one is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Two long time rivals go head to head on Saturday to defend their respected divisions. Jay-z highschool is getting hyped and prepared, hosting a Pep-rally on Thursday to give their players some life.
Jay-z high school quarterback leads the league in touchdown with an impressive 17 and a 64 percent completion rate, watch out!. If anyone has anything to say about that it is Nas high school own Walter Hagen. Walter does not play games, leading the league with a record 22 QB sacks. A lot of trash talking is conjuring up between the two teams. We asked Nas Hs Joe Martin how he feels on going against their opposing rivals he said “ We’re looking forward to this game, we are going to crush and kill Jay-z. They are going to get eatin alive.
Nas high school would love to add another blemish on the face of Jay-z highs almost perfect season. Jay-z highschool is doing their best to send Nas home with an upset because this game is make or brake. If Jay-z falls to Nas this upcoming Saturday Jay z will be knocked out of the playoff race and their season will be over, epic. Due to a quarrel with a school teacher, Nelson Beckford Nas QB is suspended and will not be able to play this Saturday. Don’t worry folks, Fred Radie, backup QB for Nas high will be filling in this very epic game.
I conducted an interview this with Nas highschool student, Jeff O’neill, “I cant wait till Saturday!” We are going to destroy Hay-z and trash their nearly perfect season. I have a voodoo doll of Jay-z quarter back, Richie Oliver, I’ve been sticking pins in it’s arm for three months. If we see him, we’re going to beat him down!”
This quote shows the passion and fury involving these two teams for the last spot in the PSAL tournament. These two teams are going to go at it on Sunday! Be sure to be there, Saturday 19th, 2009, when long time rivals Jay-z vs Nas square off. So be there or be square and root for your team! Btw, ETHERRRRRRRRRRR!!

“We’re looking forward to this game, we are going to crush and kill Jay-Z. They are going to get eaten alive.” Nas defensive lineman, Joe Martin has very high hopes for his team. Taking place on Saturday, December 19th, 2009 at Jay-Z High School, Jay-Z HS and Nas HS will be going head to head. Jay-Z has an unbelieveable record at this point (6-1) while Nas has a record of (4-3).
According to the schools website, the quarterback for Jay-Z HS, Richard Oliver leads in touchdowns with 17 & a completion record of 64%. On the other hand, the quarterback for Nas HS, Walter Hagen leads his division with a total of 22 quarterback sacks. Coach Wilson from Jay-Z HS is rooting his team all the way by saying, “We have a great record and rolling through Nas is just a formality. We know what we have to do to get to the playoffs. Beating Nas is our first step.”
Unfortunately for them, Jay-Z HS has had very bad luck. Their real star quarterback Armando Soriano has had arm trouble for the past 3 games and will most likely not be returning to play against Nas HighSchool. Following that, Jay-Z’s fullback, John Pagano is also injured. Right now, this is the most important game of the season for Jay-Z highschool. They need this win to take their team to the playoffs. Students at Jay-Z are so extremely anxious and excited that they’re holding a Pep-rally on Thursday, December 17th, 2009. Quarterback for Nas HS is suspended for fighting with a teacher and he will not be able to attend or play in this game against Jay-Z. Replacing Nas’ quarterback will be Fred Radie.
Nas interviewed many students to see how they felt about the game and one person had a strong statement. “I cant wait ‘till Saturday! WE are going to destroy Jay-Z and trash their nearly perfect season. I have a voodoo doll of Jay-Z quarterback, Richie Oliver, I’ve been sticking pins in it’s arms for three months. If we see him, we’re going to beat him down!” One thing for sure is, Nas would love to spoil Jay-Z’s tremendous season.
Here's the Giants one
-David Lee
Will the Giants make to the playoffs? Many people wonder, if New York Giants can make to the playoffs. Way they played was like a rollercoaster. They won’t the first 5 games then they lost more than they won after that. Every week is important to them. Especially, this coming Sunday, they have a game with their deathly rival, Philadelphia Eagles. Eagles are currently the nominate team for Wild-Card in playoff and Giants are a game behind them. The Giants are hosting the Eagles at their home.
My friend and I am a big Giants fan. However, we are still quite disappointed on Giants’ past performance. We thought they would make to the Super Bowl without a doubt. Until, they lost 4 straight games after winning first 5 games of their season. We all thought they finally got back their rhythm when they won against the Falcons in OT on week 11. But it wasn’t. They suffered again with their terrible defense which caused them to lose again. As the NFL season came to week 13, they had a game with their division rival, Dallas Cowboys. You can just feel how intense this game can be by just looking at the match-up. It was either take it or leave it. If the Giants don’t win, they are surely done for the season. But you couldn’t ask for more when they won against the Cowboys with their amazing offense and defense (in some part). Eli Manning led the team with 241 passing yds with 2 TDs. Even though, he only had 11 completions, his Wide Receivers made big plays. After watching this game, many of the Giants fan felt another hope in Giants. Hoping they might even win against the Eagles.
Week 14, Eagles at Giants, 8:20 P.M. The entire Giants fan would pay their tickets to attend this game instead of paying their rent. This game pretty much can decide whether Giants are making to the playoffs or not. Everyone is predicting that this game will be a huge game. But, when we go back to week 8, when Giants and the Eagles met, we all thought, this would be a big game. However, it turns out to be a blowout from the Eagles. They crushed the Giants scoring 40 points while Giants only 17. Unlike the usual Giants’ problem, their offensive game did fairly well. But on the other hand, Big Blues’ defense, which is suppose to be outstanding, just did too horrible to let the Eagles’ QB, Donavan McNabb throw 3 TDs. For this coming Sunday, we are hoping to see a great game, maybe a great win from the Giants that will lead to them to the playoffs. Therefore, we can see them on TV even after the NFL season is over. I think it’s pretty good to put your hopes up. Come on, they are the Super Bowl ’07 Champs.
The New York Giants are looking for a spot for the playoffs. Therefore, this game with the Eagles can make sure if they can make to the spot. In my opinion, Giants have a great chance of making it if they win against the Eagles, but if they lose, they will have to rely on their luck. After this week, Giants will have 3 more games. It is surely needed to win all those 3 games. Even though, it will be really tough. The team needs their defense to step up big time against their opponents. Their defensive game will be the main point. Also, they will need our support to win! Let’s root for Giants, Let’s go Giants!!
Some say that the New York Giants should be in the playoffs and
> some
> say that they shouldn't. Reasons for this is because they've had a hot
> and cold record. For the first five games of their 2009 season, they
> were considered undefeatable. Until, there October 18th game against
> the
> New Orlean Saints arrived. They lost 48-27.
> There first win was against the Washington Redskins in which
> they took
> a victory lead of six points. There second win was against the Dallas
> Cowboys with a lucky win of 33-31. According to the Giants Quarterback,
> Jake Delhomme, the fourth game was a breeze winning 24-0. The fourth
> and
> fifth game were very competitive games and although the New York Giants
> were able to pull through with both wins, it took a lot of skill. One
> win was against the Cheifs and another against the Raiders.
> Unfortunately, they couldn't keep their winning streak alive.
> The next
> four games were all losses. Although, they had a few of the best
> players, they couldn't keep up. They broke their losing streak with a
> win against the Atlanta Falcons on November 22nd.
> With on and off wins and losses, they have a chance to go to
> the
> playoffs and they might be good enough to even get a chance to be one
> of
> the two teams in the Superbowl. One thing for sure is, that they do
> have
> definite potential.

Giants Possibly Going to Playoffs
Sunday, the Eagles will be playing their last game at Giants Stadium. The Eagles have had their turn on the playoffs lately. This year in January the Giants were not in the Super Bowl. They lost in the playoffs. The Eagles have won three in a row from the Giants, including two in a row at Giants Stadium, including the game that ended their title defense in the divisional round of last year's playoffs. The Giants on offense need to run the ball better. Jacobs was terrible last week, and no Bradhsaw this week means Danny Ware will be showcased for the first time. They need to pound the ball and often and wear down the Broncos solid defensive front.
They routed the Giants on Nov. 1, the opener of the daylong festival in Philly that was capped by Game 4 of the Phillies-Yankees World Series. They’ve been here before with games against the Chargers and Falcons that were practically heart stopping season-saving, must-win “Super Bowls.” And if they beat didn’t the Cowboys, they might even have a few more. But if they had lost that game they would of fell into a bigger whole and would be more behind the eagles. Now the Giants have their chance to go to the playoffs and at the same time get revenge on the Eagles.
If the Giants end up beating the Eagles they will make the playoffs. All the Giants have to do is keep playing with no pressure because it will hurt them in the future. To wrap up the Giants have a 50-50 chance of making it to the playoffs if they beat the Eagles.
Devendra and George
The Giants aren’t going to the Super Bowl! The Giants are going to the Super Bowl! This has been a common argument for the entire season for the New York Giants. After beating the Dallas Cowboys fourteen to twenty one the New York Giants have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. This weekend the Giants are facing their rivals the Philadelphia Engle to see who will be in the playoffs.
The first week of the season the Giants played the Washington Redskins, the Giants won twenty-three to seventeen. Wide receiver Mario Manningham caught the game's first touchdown in the second quarter. Just before halftime, Redskins punter Hunter Smith ran a fake field goal into the end zone to bring the halftime score to 17–7. The Giants scored two more field goals after halftime.
The next week of the Giants’ season they played the Dallas Cowboys for the first time for this season. The Giants also won this game against the Dallas Cowboys 33-31. Giants rookie cornerback Bruce Johnson scored his first career points returning a Tony Romo interception 34 yards. Giants safety Kenny Phillips caught an odd interception off Witten's foot, setting up quarterback Eli Manning's 100th career touchdown pass—a 22-yard strike to Manningham.
Two weeks later the Giants played a great game against the Oakland Raiders. They defeated the Raiders 44-7. Bradshaw scored again on a 19-yard rush. Manningham caught a 30-yard touchdown pass to open the second quarter; and, following a red zone fumble by Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell, Nicks added a 9-yard touchdown reception. In the third quarter, Carr himself ran 12 yards for his first rushing touchdown since leaving the Houston Texans. This was a greatest victory for the Giants this season so far.
Week eight of the 2009 NFL season the Giants played their arch rival The Philadelphia Engle at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Trying to end a two-game losing streak. The Giants would get on the board as quarterback Eli Manning found Kevin Boss on an 18-yard touchdown pass, but the Eagles continued their scoring as McNabb completed a 54-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeSean Jackson and a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. However, the Eagles would seal the win in the fourth quarter as running back LeSean McCoy got a 66-yard touchdown run. The Giants lost again for the third time in the row for the season.
Last week, the season’s 13th week, the Giants played the Cowboys a second time. Dallas receiver Roy Williams scored the game's first touchdown in the second quarter, on a 4-yard pass from Romo. Manning responded with a 21-yard shot to Nicks on the ensuing drive. Another Giant set a personal record in the fourth quarter; Hixon's 79-yard punt return was the longest of his career, In a late rally by the Cowboys, Miles Austin caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Romo, but the ensuing onside kick resulted in a penalty on Sam Hurd for illegal touching and the Giants ran out the clock. The Giants had swept the Cowboys for the first time since 2004, and were now only one game behind in the division standings. The Giants won 31-24.
The New York Giants are going to play the Philadelphia Engle on this Sunday, on December 13, 2009. After beating the Dallas Cowboys fourteen to twenty one the New York Giants have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. This weekend the Giants are again facing their rivals the Philadelphia Engle to see who will be in the playoffs.
Sherwayne And Benjamin
Sherwayne, Benjamin
The New York Giants enter 2009 as once again one of the top teams in NFL. The Giants will have a great shot winning. Coach Top Coughlin has a experienced team that is only one season taken away from winning the Super Bowel. Eli Manning returns to lead the offence that should be even better than 2008 if they can avoid injuries and being hit, and fine a replacement for wide out plaxico Burress. The NY Giants defense will be very good in 2009.
The Defense us Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck and the new member Chris Canty. Antonio Pierce Leads the Giants lunebacking crew aron Ross was second. Trips to east Rutherford to face the Giants wouldent be easy for any team. Looking for NY to make another run at the Super Bowl in 2009 but don’t be surprised if you find them at another ring.
The giants are founded in 1925 at east Rutherford, new jersey. The stadium ,Giants Stadium is the Meadowland. They had the conference with NFC east. Rivals were the new york jets, and the Philadelphia eagles. The owners are Jone mara in 1935 and steve tisch in 1991. The nickname for the team is “the g men” . The notable players were frank Gifford, Lawrence taylor, and harry Carson.
The Giants are finally looking to move on from the Burress fiasco and reestablish themselves as one of the premier teams in the league. In the competitive NFC East however, what separates a 1 st place team from a last place team isn't much at all and anything can happen. The defense should be stronger and the team should be distraction free.

Aim: How can we practice writing a mock preview story, so we can then write a real preview story about a FLHS team?
Do Now: Click on this preview story from the NY Giants game, from last Sunday.
Read the article and compare it to the Philadelphia Eagles preview article you read yesterday. How is it similar? How is it different.
Read it. Discuss it with your partner. Scroll down and read the Eagles article again, (it is the next post if you scroll down). Be prepared to DISCUSS IT in class. MEANING- YOU MUST SPEAK LOUDLY ENOUGH SO EVERYONE IN THE CLASS CAN HEAR YOU!
http://www.giants.com/news/headlines/story.asp?story_id=43817
NEXT- we are going to practice writing a PREVIEW story by writing a fake one first. This is the outline for one:
The Perfect Preview Story
Directions:
Select and research an upcoming sporting event at your school. Write down what you already know and make plans to find out the missing pieces of information.
Upcoming Event _____________________________________________________
1. Time and place of game/match
2. Season record of both teams so far, season overview
3. Key statistics you would like to use for your story
4. What coaches, players and/or fans will you be contacting?
5. Relevance game has on season if applicable
6. Description of atmosphere and crowd enthusiasm.
Use the fake information from the HANDOUT, which is the BACKGROUNDING information that we will have to do as reporters to write a real preview story.

Sports Management Period 6
Overview of the New York Giants Season
The New York Giants still have a chance to get to the playoffs. Having a record of 7-5 (win to loss), they currently stand in 2nd place behind the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles whom both respectively share 1st place with an 8-4 record in the NFC East. The next Giants’ game will take place in New York against the Philadelphia Eagles. The game will be a do or die situation for the fans and this is an east coast rivalry that had taken place in many years. Should they win that game, they will be tied for first place with 3 games remaining! The fans of the New York Giants still have something to hope for and look for toward the end of the regular season.
The New York Giants season up until Week 14 has been an unexpected up and down trip for the Giants. The Big Blue started their season with a 5-game winning streak but also began a 4-game losing streak on Week 5. They had lost to the Saints, Cardinals, Eagles, and Chargers and few Giants’ fans already had lost faith and hope for the season. The New York Giants need to redeem themselves against the Philadelphia Eagles after the upset of Week 8 in a Philadelphia win 40-17 over the Giants. Up until then, their record was 5-4. It was Week 11 as the Giants were playing against the Atlanta Falcons and came away with a win with a Lawrence Tynes field goal in overtime after the Giants had driven a 45 yards to him.
On Week 12, the Denver Broncos pretty much had destroyed the Giants with a win over them at a score of 26-6. The loss had made the Giants fall from 6-4 to 6-5 for their overall season record. And finally, the Giants on Week 13 had risen the spirits of the fans after their dynamic win over the Dallas Cowboys with a score of 31-24. If it wasn’t for that win, they might have less of a chance of contending and making the playoffs if they were to have lost the game.
If the Giants want to make a 2010 playoff appearance then there running game will have to be at full affect and Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw have to be at full health. The Giants defense will have to tryand stop Donovan Mcnabb and Michael Vicks throwing and running game.

Today we are going to further practice the writing of an informative feature by researching why these two teams always play on Thanksgiving. We will also include the fact that since 2006, there is another game played at night. Why was this tradition added?
We will quickly do some reliable research
We will assemble our research, analyze it, and write a very brief informative feature.
This would be a small blurb in the paper, or a side bar for a website.
Q: Who can discuss what are the components of an informative feature?
You can work by independently, or with the partner that you wrote your last informative feature with, if you prefer
(5 min.)
Let’s start by doing our research, everyone open up Safari and then Google.
Start with the basic question: Why do The Detroit Lions and The Dallas Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving?
Write down the important information in your notebooks, as if you were a reporter. You can also copy and paste the internet address, so you can access it later.
(12 min. research)
Okay, now let’s utilize what we’ve discovered with a strong lead.
Let’s write the lead together: Everyone write down the class lead as a class. Let’s all participate in creating the lead. Brainstorm for two minutes ideas that come to mind from Thanksgiving and the research that you just did.
Elicit students to write the lead as a class (10 min.)

********************************************************************************

Aim: How do we continue our research and begin writing our informative feature about Michael Jordan?
Aim: How do we continue our research and begin writing our informative feature about Michael Jordan?
Do Now: Please log onto the class blog.
Please open up your documents and get ready to plot your informative feature.
Firstly, please share some of the things that you found out about Jordan that might help your classmates.
(5 min.)
Elicit Do Now responses
Q: Who found some really good sites that would help your classmates?
A: I found something…
(3 min.)
Materials: A. Macs
B. class blog
C. Story plotter
Procedures:
Let’s write our lead together, as a class, and then I will allow you to work with your teammate, on this article for the remainder of the period.
Q: So what will your research be about for this Jordan article?
A: It would be best to have the reader know about why Jordan was the player he was- his career, stats, etc.
Good, that’s exactly right. Don’t forget to include quotes, if you can find any, which others have said about Jordan. Other players, coaches, etc.
(5 minutes to work on lead as a class.)
Something like: Last week, Lebron James made news by announcing that NBA players should give up their 23’s in solidarity for the effort to get Michael Jordan’s number retired. James has worn the number, 23, since his high school days. Why would players feel so strongly about this? Who was this man, Jordan, who for well over a decade rocked first the basketball world, and then the planet as a whole? We decided to find out.
I’m going to distribute a graphic organizer so you can plot your article.
I want you to first plan it on paper.
Write down all the websites you visit, keep a careful record.
Remember you copy and pasted the internet addresses onto a word doc, as this was more efficient then transcribing them by hand
Spend ten more minutes researching, and then Begin the writing of the article together
After you have plotted and planned, you can then work together behind one computer and start writing a first draft.
I want all the writing to be a collaboration between you and your team mate. A good strategy would be for one person to research while the better writer turns that information into the body of the article.
I will circulate to help you… (7 min., creating the lead and administration)
(Ten minutes Research)
Okay, now begin writing the article, you will have the rest of the period to do the writing and part of tomorrow.
Summation, with three minutes left:
Okay, save your work on the hard drive, log out and place the keyboard on top of the hard drive.

Aim: How can utilize the research methods we learned to write our informative feature about Michael Jordan and the number 23?
Do Now: Let's review.
What is an informative feature?
How do we evaluate the difference between the news story and the informative feature?
What was the basic news story about? Hint: The Lebron James story we read...
How would you apply what we learned about internet research to the research of your team's article?
What would happen if you clicked on a link about Michael Jordan that said that he was a space alien? Would you believe it, based on what you learned?
(class discussion)
Okay, now I want to formally write down the teams of two that you will be working in. Please, if you have not already, pick one other person to work with for this article... (30 sec.)
Now, I want you to take 20 minutes and start reseaching about Michael Jordan and his greatness!
If I were you, I would copy and paste all the websites that have great information, expert opinion, and quotes, about Mike and put them on a word document that you can store on the hard drive, or e-mail to yourself for Monday.
Remember- an informative feature should inform, be well written, and entertain the reader!
Here's the definition again:
This is an Informative Sports Feature – these are stories that report on larger trends in sports and usually rely on research and expert opinion. For example, if a player passes out from dehydration or an NFL player collapses during training camp, the feature will use this event to discuss the importance of proper diet and nutrition.
Qualities of a Feature Story
• Feature stories are descriptive and full of detail.
• Feature stories generally have a strong narrative line.
• Feature stories have a strong lead that grabs readers and makes them want to read on.
• Feature stories often depend on interviews.
• Feature stories include quotations from the person(s) involved.
• Feature stories combine facts and opinion, with a focus on the human interest side of the story. While they can report news, the news content is not of primary importance.
• Feature stories both educate and entertain. They can include colorful detail as well as humor.
• Feature stores contain the voice of the writer.
• Feature stories can be organized in a variety of ways (i.e., chronologically, narrative fashion).
• Feature stories often put the “meat” on the “skeletal bones” of a news story.
Okay, finish copying and pasting all the good sources you found on a word doc. or in an e-mail, so you can use them Monday...
Let's spend some the rest of the day writing the LEAD (begining) of our story together.

Aim: How can we differentiate between the three feature type of sports stories?
This is a news related Special feature- These are stories that report on information about the team that is already in the news. Is the football team playing in the district championship? Will the head baseball coach return or retire? News related features tell the whole story behind the team’s success.
This is an Informative Sports Feature – these are stories that report on larger trends in sports and usually rely on research and expert opinion. For example, if a player passes out from dehydration or an NFL player collapses during training camp, the feature will use this event to discuss the importance of proper diet and nutrition.
This is a Human Interest/Player Profile Sports Feature – These are the types of stories that report on one person or a small group and report on life beyond the glamour of the sport. The focus is on the athlete as a normal person and may include family history, childhood, college athletics and significant life events. You guys have already written these!

Aim: How can we use actual game footage (and actual games) to write effective game stories?
Tueday: SWBATo further practice writing in the game story format
Aim: How can we use actual game footage (and actual games) to write effective game stories?
Do Now: Based on what you learned yesterday, what were the easiest and hardest parts of writing your game stories yesterday? (3-5 min.)
Mini Lesson- Using Abbreviations to take notes. (Please pay attention to the handout!)
Kindly click on the link from the blog:
http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=7120153
What I want each of you to do is first watch at least five of the clips from the World Series Game 6. Gather around in your Groups and use one computer, so we don't have to use extra bandwidth on the network and get a slower speed. Watch three clips that relate to the action and two clips that relate to the post-game celebration. Take effective notes.
Use bullets and jot down details
Abbreviate names
Get player names and the inning that it took place
Use the announcer’s information to help you
Remember what we learned yesterday:
1. Begin the story with a quick summary of the outcome of the game. Include key players and impressive plays.
2. Follow with a chronological timeline of the game.
3. Include the player who scored the most points and any other important statistics. Make sure to include at least one stat.
4. If possible, include a quote from a player or coach.
5. Incorporate the atmosphere and crowd into the story. Was the crowd large small? Day or night game? Weather?
6. Always end your story with a preview of the next game and include date, location and possible opponent information.
Since some of you probably watched this game, you can also activate your prior knowledge by including details that you are aware of in your notes.
(15 min.) I anticipate the videos being a problem to load, so I am allowing additional time for that…
Group Work:
Now exchange your notes with at least two other people, since we are all going to be writing about the same game, you have my permission to copy the notes of your classmate.
We all want to have enough notes so that an effective story can be written.
Notice if your classmate took better notes than you… How do they take notes?
(5 min.)
Now, take out a piece of paper, or open up a NEW WORD DOCUMENT and begin writing a game story based on Game six of the World Series.
It should be brief, effective, exciting and informative…
When there is 2 minutes left, I will instruct students to save their work and attach their stories to an e-mail and send them to me: ROliver2@schools.nyc.gov
DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOUR E-MAIL SERVER IS ONE OF THOSE (AOL, ETC.) THAT WILL NOT OPEN ON THESE MACS!

Aim: How can we write an effective Game Story, the most important part of our FLHS Athletics website?
Aim: How can we write an affective Game Story- the most important part of our FLHS Athletics website?
Do Now: Using your prior knowledge and context clues, what do you suppose a game story consists of? If you have no idea, think about a game you’ve recently watched or played in. What were the most important parts of the game? Which players made the biggest plays? (5 min.) Students will write this in their notebooks….
Please click on the link below. As I read it, jot down in your notebooks what are some obviously essential parts of a game story? (7 min.)
LA KINGS GAME STORY
-> Game stories are the most direct and straightforward pieces in sports journalism. Stories give the basic information about scores, highlights, specific plays and the players who had the most impact on the outcome of the game.
Group activity:
Here are some fake notes from a baseball game:
1. Baseball Game – Tuesday, April 22 at Palm Harbor.
2. Eastlake High beat Palm Harbor High 6-2.
3. Peter Player from Eastlake hit a homerun, a single and 4 RBI.
4. Player’s homerun came in the bottom of the 8th when the score was tied 3-2.
5. The game was delayed 20 minutes due to rain.
6. Henry Hitter from Palm Harbor scored the only 2 runs for the Hurricanes with a 2 run homerun in the 2nd inning.
7. Eastlake’s record is now 7-2 and Palm Harbor’s is 4-5.
8. Eastlake will play Osceola High Thursday, April 24, at home.
9. Make up one quote from a coach or player.
Work with the person sitting next to you, or if you prefer, work individually:
Pairs:
Take 30 seconds to decide who will do each part. One person will write the first part of the story, incorporate the first five details into your group's game story.
The second person will utilize the last four details into your groups game story.
The story should be properly written in paragraph form, brief and full of information. Just try to make every detail of the game interesting to the reader. Feel free to 'make up' any details that will add to your story.
Individuals: Take the same steps as persons working in pairs, however, your game story must have all 9 details.
Don't waste time, open a NEW WORD DOCUMENT and begin writing...
You have 12 minutes for this activity.
We will share out a few with the remainder of the period and please e-mail me your game stories as an attachment or by copy and pasting them into the body of the e-mail, which is probably easier and less time consuming: ROliver2@schools.nyc.gov
Do this when I tell you, which will be two minutes before the bell.
If you cannot complete the assignment in the time allotted, finishing it will be your H.W.
Tomorrow we will do some additional practice with this type of writing. :)
